Training
There are several types of training conducted to help insure that all individuals that comprise NCCOS are aware of the importance of conformance with the policy, procedures, and requirements of the EMS itself of how activities should be conducted at NCCOS facilities to be protective of the environment.

EMS Awareness Training
NCCOS EMS awareness training is designed to inform all individuals that comprise NCCOS of their roles and responsibilities within the EMS. This mandatory training reviews the NCCOS Environmental Policy, describes how an EMS works, and discusses ways to reduce impacts on the environment. The course will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.
The NCCOS EMS incorporates all activities of our employees and partners as well as any visitors to our facility locations. If you plan to visit one of our sites, please be aware that all visitors should take the training located HERE .
EMS Overview and Refresher Training
Periodically, environmental awareness refresher training will be given to employees and others, such as contractors and partners, as recommended by the NCCOS EMS Teams and determined by management, to provide a review of the NCCOS Environmental Policy, the role of individuals, the EMS goals and objectives, to emphasize the benefits of improved environmental management and to introduce any new implementation instructions and/or requirements. Overview Briefings are designed to provide general information on the EMS for those involved in sustaining and managing the system. Annually, all NOAA employees and contractors are required to complete the on line the NOAA Safety and Environmental Awareness Course. NOAA employees and contractors access the course through the NOAA Safety and Environmental Compliance Office (SECO) website training page. The course is designed to provide a basic overview of safety and environmental compliance requirements, while helping NOAA employees and contractors use safe working practices and ensure environmental compliance.

Competency Training
Competency training includes the various job-specific trainings that are given to employees to ensure that they are able to do their job in a way that is protective of the environment.
