Search Serials

The Rice Library Serial Holdings is an alphabetical listing of all the journal titles that are held in the library collection; all titles are not available through a current print or electronic subscription. This tutorial will cover the following items;

  • Locating a journal name;
  • Locating the journal information (coverage and call number)
  • Determining if the journal is available electronically.

To best experience the tutorial, you will need to open the Rice Library Serials Holdings  and go back and forth between the two windows.

Determining whether or not the Rice Library maintains a current subscription to a particular journal can be done in by performing a keyword search limited to NOS, Rice Library, Beaufort, NC on the journal's name in NOAALINC or by following the steps below in the Rice Library Serials Holdings:

Click on the first letter of the name of the journal.
Scroll down through the alphabetical listing of journal titles under that letter until you locate the journal.
Under the journal name the following items are available:

  • Starting volume,
  • Starting date,
  • Call number, and
  • Link to full text document (if available).

A + behind the volume and date means that the subscription in current and continues.

A / behind the volume and date means that the Rice Library no longer subscribes to this title; an ending volume and date will be provided.

If you'd like to try an example:

  1. Open the Rice Library Serials Holdings
  2. Click on the letter "M".
  3. Scroll down through the listing of titles starting with "M" and locate the title "Marine Ecology Progress Series"
  4. You will see the following statements: Full-Text from 2000 to Present, and vol. 1+ (1979+) Call No. QH541.5.S3 M35 which means that the Rice Library currently subscribes to this title in print since volume 1 (1979) and has electronic access from 2000 to today.
